Volunteer
Thank you for your interest in volunteer opportunities at the Pixie Project. Your time is valuable and we greatly appreciate it.
We hope that the following will answer some questions for you about how to get started volunteering with the Pixie Project.
Areas of Need
What you can do when you volunteer
- Opening and closing cleaning duties for dogs and cats: needed daily
- Dog walking program: adoptable dogs spend time with people, potty outdoors, and get exercise during the day

- Work with cats in the cattery: socialization, basic grooming, enrichment
- Administrative, outreach, events, retail: once an experienced volunteer, you will have the opportunity to help in these areas if you choose to do so.
Volunteering as part of a service-learning or related group
Currently, the Pixie Project does not have a separate volunteer program in place for service learning groups. Therefore, those interested in volunteering as part of a group should individually meet the requirements to volunteer and submit a volunteer application. Special group volunteer shifts can be coordinated once individuals have all completed training.
Volunteering as part of a social service agency
Volunteers from local social service or community outreach agencies are welcome with their case manager or mentor. For animal safety reasons, we do require the case manager or mentor to attend volunteer training with and accompany their client to each and every shift.
Minimum age requirements
Pixie Project volunteers must be 12 years or older to volunteer with our rescue. For any volunteers who are between the ages of 12-16 years old, a parent/legal guardian must be present at all times while volunteering (the parent/guardian must also complete volunteer training. be badged, and participate while volunteering). At 16 years old, volunteers are eligible to volunteer on their own.
About our adoptable animals
The Pixie Project’s NE location at any given time houses and cares for up to five adoptable dogs and up to twelve adoptable cats. The remainder of our adoptable animals are cared for and housed by our dedicated foster parents.
